When we were on the hunt for a suitable upstairs space at The WAG House for our Uniform Bank, it quickly became apparent that there was an additional room screaming out for a worthwhile cause. This led us to Colin, a true pillar of the Warminster community. Renowned for running the Warminster Wobble and his involvement with the community orchard, Colin had been on a five-year quest to start a Men's Shed. We reached out to him to see if he fancied making his vision a reality under the WAG banner.
This isn't just any old workshop; it's a community hub where residents can immerse themselves in hands-on projects. Operating under the WAG umbrella, the Workshop is a concrete example of our broader dedication to Warminster's health and social cohesion.
We've modelled the Workshop on the Men’s Shed movement, a fantastic initiative that offers communal spaces for people—mainly men, but not exclusively—to convene, collaborate, and learn. Whether it's woodworking, metal crafting, or electronic tinkering, the aim isn't just about the activities but the friendships and sense of community that spring up. To find out more about the Men's Shed Association go here - https://menssheds.org.uk/
The significance of the Workshop goes beyond the nuts and bolts. Isolation can significantly impact one's well-being, and men, in particular, often struggle to build social connections. A Men’s Shed—like our Workshop—provides a lifeline. It's a place to chat, share skills and worries, and rediscover a sense of purpose and community spirit.
The activities are varied, but the core principle remains: it's a community-driven space that aims to counteract loneliness, elevate mental well-being, and provide a sense of belonging. It’s not just a shed; it’s a life-enhancer, especially for those who might otherwise be socially isolated.
So, whether you fancy tinkering away at a personal project, picking up a new skill, or just fancy a good natter over a cuppa, the Warminster Community Workshop is the place to be.
Becoming a member
To join in and explore everything the Warminster Community Workshop has to offer, becoming a member is the first step. Membership is £20 per year, with a £2 fee for each session you attend. This helps us keep the lights on and the tools in top shape, ensuring the Workshop remains a welcoming space for all our creative adventures, and, of course, it keeps our biscuit tin full and the tea pot topped up—essential fuel for being creative !
Our Workshop thrives when people like you get involved. Whether you're into woodworking, crafting, or just fancy lending a hand organising sessions, there's a spot for you. No need to be an expert, just bring your enthusiasm! Together, we can make the Workshop a buzzing place full of creativity and friendship.

We're thrilled to share a video the team put together for a grant application to Axminster Tools. The video encapsulates the spirit, enthusiasm, and community feel of the Warminster Community Workshop. From the initial set-up to the impact it's already making in the community, you’ll get a front-row seat to our story so far.
